Rules

On this page you will find a listing of the general intramural program rules, as well as information on probation, suspensions and the appeal process. For further inquiries, please contact the coordinator by email or phone (210-4228).

General Rules

1. Access to facilities: rules must be followed along with intramural sport program rules. Valid student ID is required for access to the facility; without it, access will be denied.

2. Teams may not have any intercollegiate athletes (ACAC) registered on their team in the sport in which the athlete competes. For example, in the basketball league, no intercollegiate basketball athletes (male or female) are allowed on a team; however, as many hockey, volleyball, soccer, etc. intercollegiate athletes as wanted may register on that team.

3. The intramural program is open to all full-time SAIT and ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design) students, and SAIT apprentice students with a valid Campus Centre pass. SAIT staff is permitted to enter a team if they do not bump a student team out of the league. Alternatively, each student team may have a maximum of two staff members on their team. Priority will be given to student teams in all leagues.

4. Players may play for one team only.

5. Team captains are responsible for their team and player conduct.

6. Spitting rule: All participants must respect the clean environment of the SAIT facilities. Failure to do so will result in minor penalties, warnings, and possible suspensions from the program.

7. Fighting or instigation through physical or verbal abuse to other players or officials could mean an automatic ejection from the league. All individual and team probation or suspension will be decided by the coordinator of the intramural sport program with the assistance of the activity coordinator.

8. Only captains may express and concerns they or their teammates may have during game situations. These concerns will be directed through the proper channels, in the order of Referee, Activity Coordinator, and Supervisor of the intramural sport program. Timekeepers and intramural assistants will not be addressed.

9. Missing or damaged equipment: Teams are responsible for the equipment they use, including Jersey's. Missing or damaged equipment will result in deduction from activity fees(Jersey's $20, Pinnies $10, Floor Hockey Sticks $10 etc.

10. Player additions may be submitted by the team captain. All player information is required for the player to be registered on the team. Additions may be submitted 24 hours in advance of any scheduled game in order to be eligible for that game. If a player is not listed on the roster prior to the game, it is the activity's supervisor's discretion to let the individual play.

11. Captains are required to complete game sheets prior to the start of the game, and should check and sign the game sheet at the completion of the game. They must check that all players who attended are marked on the game sheet. The intramural administration records will be used to determine eligibility for play-offs.

12. Eligibility of players will be checked at random - picture ID must be produced prior to the end of the game in progress. If an ineligible player is found during a scheduled game, the game will be stopped, and the team with the ineligible player will receive a default for that game. A second offence will mean removal from the league and loss of the team activity fee.

13. Eligibility for play-offs is attendance at 50% of league games for the same team.

14. Adjustments in scheduling may occur when teams are removed from the league. It is important that captains check their team's schedule 24 hours in advance of their next game.

15. The activity fee must be paid before any league or tournament schedule can be produced. All activity fee's are refundable except in the case where: 1 (one) default occurs, resulting in 50% of the activity fee not being returned; 2 (two) defaults occur, resulting on 100% of the activity fee not being returned; or if there are charges assessed for damage or misplaced equipment. All requests for activity fee refunds must be made prior to April 30 of each year's end.

The intramural program will support all minor officials 100%; therefore, the chance of a decision being reversed or lessened is unlikely.

Only captains may confront the referee (in a respectful manner) to question any calls made.

Performance Bond Policy

What is a Performance Bond?

A performance bond is a guarantee from participating teams that they will show up for each and every one of their schedules games and conduct themselves properly.

Performance bonds are refundable.

Failure to show up for games and misconducts are grounds for forfeiture of performance bonds. The first infraction will result in loss of half the bond, and a second infraction will result in loss of the remainder. Once a team has lost their entire bond, they must post another in order to stay in the league. The bond holder must come with their original receipt and picture ID to collect their bond.
