1916 P.I.T.A. Provincial Institute of Technology and Art
1921-22 First Athletic Association. Basketball was the only sport played with outside teams the first year
1927 Mostly exhibition and inter-class sports activities
1929-35 Wide range of sport activities organized at the institute and almost every student was involved
1936-37 Hockey and Basketball participated in city leagues
1940-45 P.I.T.A. campus taken over by the Federal Government to uses as a RCAF Wireless Training School and classes moved to the Calgary Stampede grounds
1946-47 P.I.T.A. returned to the campus (the war was over)
1947-48 "T" Awards for work in sports or in other extra-curricular activities (in the hope that they would be compared to University letter awards)
1948-50 Men's Basketball Team is called "Cal-Tech" or "Tech Bombers"
1950s Sports teams incorporated short form "Cal-Tech" or "Tech" but Administration tried to minimize the use of the term as it had become associated with high school programs. "Institute of Technology" was encouraged
1950-51 Men's Hockey Team is called "Panthers"
1954-55 First time full-season was completed in hockey. League sponsored by Calgary Intercollegiate Athletic Association
1955-56 Tech TROJANS Basketball - played in CIAA, Tech Panthers Hockey in house league, and Tech Tyrants Volleyball in house league
1956-57 First time in history of Tech that Cheerleaders were organized for the basketball games
1958-59 Tech Bomberettes Women's Basketball is formed, Tech Panthers Hockey uses the colours orange and black, and Al Buttle joined the staff
Dec. 24, 1960 P.I.T.A officially changed name to SAIT
1962-63 Hockey Team adopted "Trojans" name
1963-64 Green and gold are the official colours of Athletics and Athletics is in the Western Intercollegiate Conference
1964-65 First appearance of the Trojan Head and Al Buttle named the Women's teams the Helena's because it was customary for women's teams to have their own names. There were still cheerleaders at this time
1966 Volleyball Team adopted the "Trojans" name
1968 Trojan head appears on yearbooks. Sports are developing more
1968-69 Increased student participation in sports with Ken Tidsbury being hired
1969-70 The Trojans and Helenas as names for men's and women's teams became well established
1970-71 SAIT became a member of ACAC
1971-72 New institute logo - uniforms focus on the Institute logo rather than the name "Trojans"
1972 4-West Championships - first time playoffs between top College teams in MB, SKAB, and BC
1977-78 Trojan warrior on a horse appeared on yearbooks until early 80's
1986 New Mascot. $100 was given as a prize for a "choose the mascot's name" contest. The name Troy was chosen (tied by seven people)
Sept. 1988 Athletic teams get a new look. Red and White colours instead of Gold and Green. Helenas changed to Lady Trojans and Athletics developed a new logo
1989-90 New version of Troy the Mascot used (with red and white costume)
1996-98 "Kong" the gorilla entertains at games as a mascot
1998-99 "Year of the Trojan" is coined and Troy the Trojan Horse is introduced as the Trojans' new mascot
1999-00 "The Tradition Continues...Courage Determination Spirit" is the theme for the year
2002-03 Women's Hockey joins the ACAC
2002-05 Cheerleading returns for three seasons as a club team
Dec. 2003 Third jersey and alternate logo are introduced in men's hockey
2003-04 Trojan Outreach Program (TOP) is formed, and athletes perform clinics and practice session for schools and minor sports teams
Feb. 2004 SAIT renovates the Campus Centre gymnasium
June 7, 2004 SAIT Trojans receive the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Community Service Award for the Trojan Outreach Program
